goodnight by Elena Vallejo
last night i played with the fire
of my sea salt and white tea candle
edged my finger closer and closer until it stung
pulled away
and i did it again
and again
i take a glass shard and
scrape it against my hip
my body tenses
a reminder that life is inside
i’m not quite sure if that’s a comfort
when i’m sick i lay on the bathroom floor
with the shower on
maybe it’s my soul realigning
itself with the earth’s rain drops
maybe i find comfort being so close to drowning
pretending that i don’t know whats causing my actions
that i don’t know why my fingers move
my mind knows
she knows it’s because i don’t want to wake up
of my sea salt and white tea candle
edged my finger closer and closer until it stung
pulled away
and i did it again
and again
i take a glass shard and
scrape it against my hip
my body tenses
a reminder that life is inside
i’m not quite sure if that’s a comfort
when i’m sick i lay on the bathroom floor
with the shower on
maybe it’s my soul realigning
itself with the earth’s rain drops
maybe i find comfort being so close to drowning
pretending that i don’t know whats causing my actions
that i don’t know why my fingers move
my mind knows
she knows it’s because i don’t want to wake up
