glass-breaking season by Charlotte Amelia Poe
it is the season of
glass-breaking
what i mean to say is
everything is suddenly temporary
we have seen god and
we know how to be afraid now
we count our breaths in
awkward silences and we
know now that we are made of meat
and bone
we are feral animals made tame
and we have tasted fresh blood
for the first time in years
we cut our tongues on sharpened
teeth
and we carve our nails like claws
we are golden with this sudden
betrayal
and the sun has bleached our hair
divinity shines in us like
honeycomb
ribcages housing hollow heart bees and
beating fast -
and we are holy, holy, holy.
