12 months by Phrieda Bogere
i spent twelve months
scratching my skin with
pieces of glass,
becoming dissatisfied
with my routine,
and spending the nights
writing, constantly writing,
until my hands are tired
and i think i’ve had enough.
i’ve been running from
the things i’ve wanted,
paralyzed by time,
peeling back the layers,
still feeling empty inside.
thinking about how
i’m too old to be
making the same mistakes,
why healing is anything
but linear, is all of this
worth trying again,
if nothing goes
as planned.
